ECOFISH - Enhancing resilience of Tanzanian coastal communities

ECOFISH - Enhancing resilience of Tanzanian coastal communities:

Towards sustainable fisheries and a healthy marine environment

ECOFISH adresses the multiple environmental challenges in Tanzanian coastal zone with a focus on sustainable fisheries and pollutant effects on biota, foodwebs and seafood under changing climate for the benefit of Tanzanian coastal community resilience and adaptation.

About the project

ECOFISH Research project

The objectives of ECOFISH are:

  1. to reduce the threats that climate change and pollution pose to marine biodiversity, ecosystem functions and fisheries-related livelihoods
  2. to enhance the resilience of coastal communities for climate-induced weather changes
  3. to improve the sustainability and productivity of fisheries
  4. to strengthen the research capacity, ocean literacy and regional research collaboration within fisheries and marine science

The project is a cooperation between three Tanzanian and three Danish institutions:

  • Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA)
  • Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI)
  • University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM - IMS & IRS)
  • Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI - NCKF)
  • Copenhagen Business School (CBS – MSC)
  • Technical University of Denmark (DTU Aqua)

ECOFISH is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The ECOFISH research results are independent, and the views and opinions expressed by project partners based on the research findings do not necessarily reflect those of the MFA.
